This recipe happened on a serendipitous evening when there was no chocolate in the house besides cocoa powder. I have always heard and always seen "best hot chocolate recipes" online that start out by melting chocolate chips or your favorite baking chocolate or something and I would have definitely chosen one of those originally. But on this night, we didn't have any and my husband really wanted hot chocolate. I threw a few ingredients into a pot and stirred it until it was hot and we were both mind blown! It was the PERFECT hot chocolate!
While it has cinnamon in it, the cinnamon is not overpowering. Don't let that stop you from making this how chocolate because it just adds the perfect warmth! Be sure to make this during these cold winter months and tell me what you think! It's definitely become a winter staple in our house.
Serves: 4 (12 oz. cups)
Total Time: 15 min.
Recipe
6 cups milk
Just under one cup sugar
4 tbsp. cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1. Combine all of the ingredients in a medium saucepan and heat over medium-high heat.
2. Stir occasionally until the milk is just about to boil. Do NOT let the milk come to a boil, otherwise you'll get a weird film that is not pleasant to drink.
3. Enjoy with marshmallows or candy canes, or on its own!
You know my address.
Sounds yummy! I can't wait to try them.
